Welcome to the new school year! Here is an overview of programs, schedules, policies and special events for 2011-2012 at the
Winner Piano Studio.

LESSONS:
All students receive thirty-four private lessons in nine months.
(See "Lesson Calendar.")

SPECIAL EVENTS:
"Students only" events include three ensemble workshops and two piano parties. In addition, there are six events scheduled for the entire family in the upcoming year: two recitals, a dinner party, an Open House party to celebrate Mrs. Winner's 45 Years of teaching, and two events sponsored by the Anne Arundel Music Teachers Association: Fall at the Mall and the Water Music Festival.
(See the "Events Calendar.")

TUITION:
Tuition payment is due the first lesson each month, September through May. Alternately, families may opt to pay by the semester.                                        (See "Summer Lessons"  for summer payment policy.)

CANCELLATIONS:
I will make up all lessons that I cancel. I am unable to offer make-ups or give credit for lessons that you cancel. If a conflict occurs in your schedule you may try to arrange a lesson swap with another student. (I will distribute copies of my student roster at the beginning of each school year. Please keep it on hand; it has served many families well!)

SNOW POLICY:
In the event of snow I don't follow school closing policies. Please use your judgment: If you're able to get here, I'll teach; if driving conditions are hazardous, please cancel the lesson. I will make up two snow days per school year, provided you call and cancel the lessons prior to lesson time.

PRACTICE:
Parents who are aware of what their children are studying at school, who emphasize the importance of doing their best in all areas and who insist that homework be done regularly, consistently and carefully (including during sports season!) with supervision and assistance if necessary, can be sure their children will succeed. The same approach must be taken with piano practice if your child is to advance beyond beginner. The study of music is as rigorous a discipline as any academic subject; it is not an extracurricular activity! (Please refer to "Practice Guidelines for Parents" page for more information.)

COMMUNICATION:
Please feel you can discuss with me any matter relating to your children. ). Many children are shy about communicating with their teachers; I therefore count on parents to fill me in. Please keep in touch!
